2017 was quite the year. Whether you hoped it would stay longer or couldn't wait for 2018, there were definitely some great things that happened this year on social media! At the end of the year I had one question for the team: Who or what inspired you? Was there anything specific a brand did that inspired more creativity? Was there one person on Instagram whose passion for what they did made you want to strive to become better at what you do?
Kaushal Kakadia - CTO
Inspired By: @garyvee
"His Instagram profile breathes motivation and support. His style and voice inspired me to do the exact same and inspire others through my journey and hard work. He helped me realize it's not about how you do it, but actually going out there and just starting. You'll find your lane, but until then you just put in the work and effort."
Inspired By: @kochifaraj
"This account/guy inspired me in a different way. After looking at his account it made me realize what potential I had with my own look and style, and going into 2018 what kind of effort I wanted to make to constantly look and feel like that. It inspired me by motivating me to be fit, to put effort into dressing nicely and keeping up with myself."
Keith Kakadia - CEO
Inspired by- The Futur
"The futur inspired me to look at design in a different way, I have always had a deep respect for design but after really seeing the process of everything I had a whole new appreciation for it. We also took a lot of pointers in the way they do their own marketing. They are a valuable source of information for designers and we want to be a valuable source of information for social media marketers."
Inspired by: Amazon
"Amazon has continued to astonish me with the business model and everything they do. I took a lot of pointers from Amazon this year in the way they handle customer service, scaling, and new business ventures."
Hank Washington - Art Director
Inspired by: Jerry Lui
"Jerry Lui is a Designer/Animator that has inspired me to think explore animation deeply!"
Inspired by: Burnt Toast Creative
"BTC is the creative works of Scott Martin of Canada. His consistency in his illustration has made him an influencer that has inspired me to dabble more into illustration and find my creative voice. His approach to diff ideas and concepts allowed me to express some of the crazy thoughts I have openly in an illustrative way."
Inspired by: Ade Hogue
"Ade is a freelance graphic designer and lettering artist. In his blog, he explains his journey of becoming a freelancer. He shows the ups and downs in his journey, which was inspiring to me as an artist. Being a fan of hand lettering, his work has always been a source of inspiration for personal pieces."
Anna Weissinger - Social Media Director
Inspired by: Man Repeller
"I was told to follow Man Repeller by my best friend on a high school senior beach trip and #noregrets.
Man Repeller has an identity all their own. They are creative, quirky and stylish. Nearly every image they post to their Instagram is a call to action to click the link in their bio which sends you to their website. The time spent interacting with their brand is significantly higher than just pressing a 'like.' Once on their website, Man Repeller has an archive of articles that cover nearly every topic from a personal perspective.
One of their strengths is that their journalists build a personal connection with their readers. After following the account for a while I know who each writer is, what they will probably write about and their style of journalism. A talented team of journalists partnered with stunning imagery is the perfect recipe for a killer Instagram page."
Inspired by: We Rate Dogs
"They are all, indeed, good dogs. This account is what is right with the internet.
We Rate Dogs was created by Matt Nelson 2 years ago and boomed with the still hilarious, and famed tweet. "@brant they're good dogs Brent"
"Their Instagram is filled with a daily doses of adorable. This account never strays from its pure focus of good boys.
14/10 will never unfollow.
Adrian Marcus - Creative Director
Inspired by: @diddy
"He went from nothing to something.
He has built his brand on 'LOVE'.
He has multiple brands that are an interest of mine. (I'd trade vodka for whiskey though. lol)
He understands MARKETING. "
Inspired by: @adidas
"THEY'RE JUST PLAIN CREATIVE. PERIOD.
Some things just aren't meant to be explained, they can only be felt...
Aubrey Crawford - Community Manager
Inspired by: @beautifuldestinations
"The Beautiful Destinations team is composed of several young, ambitious entrepreneurs. I relate to them as they are in the same age group as me, shoot primarily landscape, and work in the world of innovation. Their video and photo content is original, high quality, and something I aspire to."
Inspired by: @tutes
"I have admired Tutes’ work for years and had the privilege of meeting him in New York in 2017. He primarily shoots editorial portraits. He expressed his love of the creative world but also how difficult it can be to survive in it, especially living in a city with high competition. He showcases his work on Instagram and uses Instagram stories to inspire other creatives with calls to action and updates on new innovations. Tutes is talented, humble, and encouraging."
Lizzie Earley - Community Manager
Yeah, that's me. What Instagram pages was I inspired by in 2017? Let me tell you.
Inspired by: @ajgreenefit
This is just a fitness account but it is inspiring in my own life to keep a positive attitude and always try my hardest and persevere. This can be translated into not only fitness and overall health (which is very important) but also into my work life. That's a win-win. Alyssa has turned herself into a brand - making t-shirt’s with her Instagram handle and always encouraging her followers to be kind and positive in whatever they love to do.
