Hello friends!
If you're reading this, you know exactly what time it is! It's time for your weekly dose of all things social media!
Lucky you!
Let's talk about one thing that happened on social media this week that we all can't stop talking about.
YANNY VS LAUREL
This is just like the white and gold dress that people disagreed on. I have to say, the first time I heard it I was like "This is 100% Yanny, and anyone that hears Laurel is honestly CRAZY." Well. LATER THAT NIGHT. I watched a video with them playing it and heard Laurel?! Safe to say my brain is messed up because of this. Want an explanation? Click here.
Does a song explain your mood better than you can? Share it on your Instagram story! Spotify and Instagram collaborated to make it easier to share a song! Open the share menu in your Spotify app and just click on "Instagram Stories." It's that easy!
Have you seen the new polling option? It's just a little bit more fun and more interactive with your followers!
Instagram said,
βThe emoji slider lets you ask more nuanced questions when you want to find out how your friends feel about something. By choosing an emoji for your question, you also add a layer of emotional context that helps those answering understand your tone and answer accordingly.β
How cool!
Apparently, Instagram will release a feature to let you know how long you spend on the app. CEO Kevin Systrom even confirmed it. I'm not sure I want to know how much time I spend on the app. π
You can also now share an Instagram post to your story, if it's on a public profile of course. Add your own commentary and tag your friends. Cool!
Facebook is reportedly working on a new scoring system for business pages. This would mean your business page would get a rating out of 10 stars instead of 5. "Facebook would expand its capacity to uncover more relevant business for users." This would weight newer recommendations higher so you can continue improving. It's an interesting way at looking at the rating scale.
Facebook stories will now give you three new options: Audio posts, Facebook stories archive, and save to Facebook. The coolest of the three I thought was the audio posts. This will open up a more creative space for people that don't always have video as an option. I am interested in how this will affect other social media platforms in the future.
SNAPCHAT
I mentioned that Snapchat was considering "unstoppable" ads in a previous TWISM. The time has come. After finally going back to a closer version of their old design with friends stories, I'm not sure how users will take to this. I'm sure they'll just get used to it.
TWEET OF THE WEEK
This is the tweet of the week for obvious reasons.
That wraps it up for this week in social media! As always, send me an email if you see something great on social or a funny tweet!
