Colleges & Blogs: Part One

Today there are over 1.5 billion blogs on the internet. Blogs are starting to become popular among colleges. They are a great way to reach out to alumni, students, and prospective students. This is a two-part series that will discuss different aspects of blogging and why colleges need to take advantage of it.

The first part of this blog series will be about why colleges need to be blogging. Lots of universities are already blogging, such as LSU and the University of Georgia. This post will tell you why your school should have a blog.

1. Increased inquiries and enrollment

Organizations that blog have 55% more traffic than those that don't. This increased traffic will lead to more students looking at and researching your university. By placing call-to-actions (CTAs) in your blog, you can gather information from your readers and nurture them on their journey to becoming students.

2. It shows a more personal side of your school that students are able to relate with

You can write about so many topics on your blog that will appeal to prospective students.Things such as homecoming and other campus activities will interest students. You could also write about a day in the life of a student at your school. This will give prospective students the more realistic view they want.

3. You will rank higher on search engine results

With your blog, you will have more content-rich pages. This gives you a better chance of ranking high in search results. Including keywords also helps your ranking. And who doesn't want to rank high on search engines?




Now you know why your university should have a blog. It will help increase applicants and it's more personal than just the school's website. In the next part of this series, I will give you some topics you can write about for your blog. Stay tuned!
