Creating a Social Media Content Calendar for February 2020 (PLUS Ideas!)

It's almost February and that means it's time to start planning the next month of mind-bending, relative, creative, inspirational and educational content.

Let's be honest, creating content can be EXHAUSTING. It takes a significant amount of inspiration, creativity and work to craft the type of content that is going to attract, engage and delight your target audience in a way that is most effective.

So when it comes to planning content, the content calendar planned in advance is your friend. Why? Because when you have dry spells of creativity, your content calendar can give your brain a little rest and help you decide how to proceed and where to go next.

Today, we're going to help you craft a content calendar for February 2020 and even give you some ideas for things you can post that will help fill it out.

Let's get started.

Creating a Creative Space

When creating a content calendar, you need to be able to think freely. Put yourself in the position of your target audience, (think buyer personas) and then think about what it is they want to see the most. What are things they struggle with that YOU can help with? How can you better connect and inspire them to achieve their goals? Answering these questions can help you get into a state of mind that will put you on a trajectory to creativity in your own specific niche.

Keep a notebook handy. Make notes. Scribble ideas. Take a walk. Make some coffee. Go where you feel inspired and connected to your audience. If they frequent specific areas, go there. This can help you connect the dots and establish more opportunities that lead to clicks and conversions.

There's No Need to Post Every. Single. Day.

Seriously. If you can't find 29/30/31 days of content or whatever, don't sweat it. In fact, it's perfectly acceptable to choose three days a week when you want to put something up and make it happen.

The Essential Steps to Making an Effective Content Calendar

Auditing your current social media channels and presence is an important step in making sure the kind of content you're posting, the time you're posting it and the response from your target audience is as amazing as it can be.

Choosing the correct social media channels is also important prior to creating a calendar so that you can create content that works well on the specific channels.

One of the most important things you can do, however, is make a content library for videos, written content and other media. And no, this does not mean a folder on your iPhone, but you do need to be able to access it from anywhere and it should be large enough for bigger files. (Google Drive is a personal favorite for us, and it allows us to add more space as we need it.)

A few other key questions you will need answers to:

- Establish how often you will be posting on each social channel;

-Have your team review what you come up with and get their input;

-Do some research into what is and isn't successful for your competitors.

After you've established the answers to each of the questions and found a rhythm for what works, you'll be ready to start choosing and scheduling content for your social channels.

Ideas for Content in February 2020

So what are some ideas you can implement for your own social media in 2020?

As a general rule, holidays are definitely a huge opportunity for connecting with your audience, and as it turns out, February is a big month for celebrations and holidays.

Of course Valentines is the one that stands out the most, but there are other days you can take advantage of, like:

Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day (February 1st), Chocolate Fondue Day (February 5th, Clean out Your Computer Day (February 10th), World Radio Day (February 13th), Valentine’s Day (February 14th), Ferris Wheel Day (February 14th), Random Act of Kindness Day (February 17th), Single Tasking Day (February 22nd) and International Polar Bear Day (February 27th).

Holidays are a fantastic opportunity for giveaways, gifts, contests, sales and more, so you can fill your calendar with holiday-themed posts and even themed culture shots from around your business location.

February is classically known as "the love and friendship month" so you can take advantage of this if your business or products have any potential of playing into the trends of February. This typically includes: Self-care, Recipes for two, Gift guides, Galentine’s day, Chocolate, Roses, Date night ideas, Makeup trends.

Playing off of the trends of the month are a huge way to attract more views, more engagements and more conversions, so we'd definitely recommend taking advantage.

Culture is always a big one that should definitely be included in your monthly line-up. Remember: your viewers want to know what you're doing behind the scenes and how you go about doing what you do. Give them an opportunity to see it!

Providing insight into the industry is also a fantastic way (and dare I say a necessity) for building a relationship with your audience in a way that creates trust that you know what you're doing.

Some other great specific ideas? Chocolate, Confections, Self Love/Self Care, Gifts for Him and Her, Beauty/Makeup, Date Night Ideas and Most Romantic Things/Places/Eats.

Have any creative insight into what kind of content fits February? We're all ears!
