Good morning! Good afternoon! Good evening!
Whatever time you’re reading this. Welcome back to This Week in Social Media! I’m glad you came. I get it, it was a busy week and you missed out on most of the little changes. Don’t worry, I did the work for you!
Check out what’s new ⇣⇣⇣
My favorite update of this week comes in the form of Instagram highlights. Pin stories to your profile for followers to watch as many times as they want. Set the vibe for your entire insta. Head to the archived section and you’ll see every story that you posted starting December 5th, just in case you want to pin one of those. Essentially it’s the same idea of a pinned tweet.
#FunFact - Instagram announced there are 25 million active business profiles. WOW!
Messenger for kids? So many more kids have access to smartphones and internet then I had when I was 12. Therefor, Facebook wants to make it safer for kids online. Messenger Kids will protect children from communicating with strangers. Parents have to approve each device that their kid can use and can use it to monitor and approve who is sending their child messages.
Facebook announced a new set of tools that will help out non-profits and community organizations raise funds. ‘Fundraisers API’ makes it easier to raise awareness of causes.
VINE
RIP Vine. Vine co-founders could be working on a follow-up to vine. They haven’t gotten over the loss just like we haven’t. Stay tuned to find out if we are blessed with more six-second video creativity in the near future.
SNAPCHAT
The Snapchat re-design will focus on separating your friends from everything else. To find your friends, swipe left. Want to know what’s happening in the world? Swipe right to Discover content that you will most likely be interested in. Auto-advance is making a comeback. You’ll be able to skip a story without watching it. Bring it on!
