Hellllllllllo! Welcome back to This Week in Social Media, where I find all of the best social media updates and put them in one place. How convenient is that for you?! You could say I am pretty helpful.
Do you want the good ole days back of Facebook back? I want to remember those days. Facebook wants you to remember too. Facebook has been under some negative light in the past weeks so naturally they launched a happy campaign called "Here Together." I mean check out the video here, it's pretty cute. I'm all about it.
You can also challenge your friends to donate to nonprofit organizations. Again, with all the negative in the Facebook news, it is nice to see the positive that they are doing.
Oh, also...Facebook's latest feature is to completely delete your browsing history.
“Today, we’re announcing plans to build Clear History. This feature will enable you to see the websites and apps that send us information when you use them, delete this information from your account, and turn off our ability to store it associated with your account going forward.”
Facebook Messenger released a set of tools called 'M Translations.' This enables users to "automatically translate messages send to them in their non-native language, expanding opportunities for international commerce." Pretty neat!
Last but not least in the Facebook world...... Facebook Dating. This makes so much sense that I am not even surprised. This will be in the Facebook app but completely separate so you're friends don't see that you're using it if you don't want them to. How do you feel about this?
Foodies unite! Snapchat is going to bring us another way to preview the food at a restaurant made possible by Kabaq! This will allow you to scan a Snapcode and it will place a virtual dish on your table. How cool is that!?
Not only can you see your food, but you can also shop! The Shoppable AR filter will allow you to download, buy, or view a video directly from Snapchat. Do you have these features on your Snapchat already? Send them to me!
"Snapchat wants to redefine augmented reality." You'll be spending more time on Snapchat when you realize you can play games with your face with the new Lens-based games called Snappables. You can do it by yourself or challenge every single one of your friends. IT'S ON!
Snapchat is testing 6-second unskippable ads. BLEH! Snapchat will call these ads..... commercials. How mind blowing? Anyway, I am not interested!
I think by now we are all aware that Twitter has been looking to expand as a news platform. It may be bad, but yes I find a lot of my news information first via Twitter. 🤷🏼♀️ It has now started to air live newscasts and highlight tweets from journalists.
This is probably going to be one of my favorite social media updates. Instagram "in the coming weeks" will roll out a way for you to preview every story you are about to post.. AT THE SAME TIME! No more wondering how it will all look together.
Also for stories, Instagram is testing out a slow motion option. This isn't a wild option but does make it easier to be creative straight in the Instagram app!
It is 2018, and bullying is NOT cool. That's why Instagram is adding new tools to stamp out bullying. The automated filter will directly find Instagram users who criticize and bully others. Be kind, that is all!
Introducing a skin tone filter for makeup! This could be pure magic for the beauty industry. Pinterest is testing a feature that will allow users to filter results by skin tones to better their search experience. This could be an awesome feature! I for one, would love to be able to look more at makeup ideas that would fit by own skin tone to get a better idea of the look I should go with! It's a cool idea for us Pinterest users so I hope it sticks!
This week, LinkedIn added the option for Lead Gen Forms in their ads. This could be a game changer.
TWEET OF THE WEEK
Just a good boy.
