The Greatest Non-Awkward Company Team Building Ideas

Ready for some great news?

Team building exercises don’t have to be an awkward waste of time.

You know what else?

They can be wildly effective ways to bring your team together, learn crucial communication skills and boost the overall productivity of your employees.

But if you’re like most of us, trying to find team-building activities that don’t absolutely suck can be an ordeal. And that’s why we’re bringing you a quick list of awesome team-building exercises to bring you and your employees closer together and more in-tune with the way each individual goes about solving problems and communicating.

Let’s Get Started.

Things You Can Do In The Office

Although its always a good idea to take some time away from the office to grow closer as a community and have some fun, it can be just as effective to take thirty minutes once or twice a month to do some of these fun activities with your team.

  • A Scavenger Hunt - Separate employees into two groups and use some things you'd normally find around the office to create a fun scavenger hunt. First team to win can enjoy lunch on the losing team!
  • An Eggpocalypse Drop - Paper, Pens, Tape, Staples, Notebooks, Cardboard, Paper Clips, or whatever you can find in the office is used to create a contraption that keeps an uncooked egg from breaking when it lands. Just make sure you don’t set up on the carpet anywhere. In fact, you should probably consider taking this one out to the parking lot.
  • Blind Drawing - Two people sit back to back and a third person gives one of the two a picture of something. This person has to describe what they’re looking at without saying what it is to the second player.
  • Blind Folded Taste Testing - Take random foods and pop them on paper plates. Two people have to put on blindfolds, taste a little of the food and then describe what they’re eating to the second person within a certain time limit. If they guess correctly, the second person tastes why the first person guesses and so on until time is up. A few ideas? Jello, pudding, ketchup, lettuce and cucumber all work wonderfully and can be surprisingly difficult to guess without using the words that are included in the foods themselves.
  • Cooperative board games can be loads of fun and help build team communication all at the same time! Some to consider would be Pandemic and Forbidden Desert.

For When You’re Ready to Get Out of the Office

Even though it might seem daunting and counter-productive to get everyone out of their chairs and away from their desks for a few hours, letting your team work together and have a great time can boost morale, communication, and productivity. So what are you waiting for? Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Laser Tag - Seriously. This might be on the top of this list for a reason.
  • Indoor Go Kart Racing
  • Indoor Trampoline Park
  • Ice Skating
  • Indoor Rock Climbing
  • Happy Hour at a Favorite Bar

It Doesn’t Have to All Be Fun and Games

Getting your team to pitch in around the city or do some volunteer work can be hugely beneficial. Whether it be a food kitchen or even just picking up loose trash on the side of the road, get some music going and be sure to show the world what your team is up to on social so you can inspire more people to get involved and promote your brand all at the same time.

It might be difficult to get started, but having a team meet-up once every few months or even once a month when everyone can get out and stretch and have some fun can make a HUGE difference in the way your company functions as a team.

Remember: Success requires work, but it also requires everyone to be on the same page and heading in the same direction. Do a little team building and we promise you won’t be disappointed.
