The Help Desk: How Do I Start Social Media Marketing for My Business?

It can be tempting not to want to jump in and start posting everything or anything all at once. After all, that's what social media is all about, right? Posting content?

Nope! It's actually significantly more complicated. But don't panic. With this guide, you'll be posting like a pro in no time.

Getting Started on Social: Making a Plan

The first step to doing more than just "making it" on social is to create a game plan. Without a goal, you're running around in the dark doing whatever feels right in the moment. But the logic in that is skewed.

Creating a strategy gives you something to shoot for. It puts a clear goal in your head and allows you to make a path through all of the different obstacles so that you can make it to that goal.

Below we have outlined some of the questions you will want to ask yourself to get a better idea of what you hope to accomplish, exactly how you plan to accomplish it and who you can count on to help you out. And in addition, we've thrown in some tips to help you out in the long term. Check it out:

1) What is The Goal?

Website clicks? App downloads? Building trusting relationships with your target audience through helpful content? Whatever the main goal is, make sure all of the variables that come into play when you're creating a strategy point back to the goal. Otherwise, you'll be running around in circles and will never make headway.

2) Where is Your Target Audience?

Wherever your target audience might be, whether on TikTok or Instagram, that's where you need to be. If you're not sure where your audience spends the majority of their time, put together some buyer personas and do a little investigating. You'll be surprised at what you find!

3) Create Easily Recognizable Handles Across Platforms

You want your brand to be easily recognized and remembered, right? Your handle is a huge piece of this puzzle. Choose something memorable, short and relevant, and then apply it where you can across platforms. Handles matter.

4) Build Your Social Media Team

Managing a marketing team or even your own business is a wonderful achievement. One that takes an incredible amount of work and perseverance. As a CEO and creator of my social media business, I totally understand and empathize with the long hours, the stress and the constant feeling of everyone and everything depending on your success. And though its also a very rewarding process, (one that I have even grown to love) it doesn't mean that I have forgotten what it has taken to get here or the help I have received along the way.

When it comes to your social media, don't be a superhero. ASK FOR HELP and build a network that you can trust.

Use Your Social Channels to Build Relationships

No matter what your end goal is, using your social media channels to build trusting relationships with your followers in imperative if you plan on being successful.

The type of content you share is going to greatly depend on what industry you're coming from, but the main point I want to get across to you is that when it comes to content, you need to be looking for opportunities to be helpful and inspiring to your audience. Believe me. It makes a difference.

Keep to a Schedule, But in a Flexible Way

Whether you plan to post three times a day or once a day every three days, keeping to a schedule is important for uniformity and also your peace of mind. It also gives your followers some idea of what to expect from you.

That being said, being flexible enough to post randomly for whatever reason is imperative to the success of your strategy. Not only does everyone enjoy a little freedom from the mundane, being flexible will also give you peace of mind in the long run.

Content Matters

Plan your content on a schedule that works for you and give yourself time to be creative.

Social media is all about creativity. From hilarious sixty second teasers to fun graphics and copy, your social media success relies on the content you post.

Videos, animated graphics, stories and teasers are all huge right now. Find ways to incorporate these things into your marketing campaign in fun, relevant and creative ways and stay on top of your competitors!

DON'T FORGET: The most important thing when it comes to content is making sure you're ADDING VALUE for your customers.

Social media marketing isn't hard, but it does take a significant investment. Monetarily, physically and even mentally when it comes to the creative side.

When we get down to the core of the issue, social media is all about authenticity and strategy. If you know what you want and you can be realistic, you can plan accordingly.

I hope we were able to provide you with the insight you needed to get started when it comes to your own social media strategy. Do you have questions? Comments? Further insight? WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
