Video Marketing on Social Media: What You Need to Know in 2020

2020 is right around the corner and that means its time to step up your video marketing game.

>>>Check out our video marketing best practices HERE<<<.

You already know that video on social is a critical component of social media marketing success. You probably also know that video is one of the best-performing media types, continually driving more and more engagement than the other members of the media family.

But did you know that social media video viewers report that they retain 95% of a message when the information is portrayed through video?

It’s time to dig into the secrets of video marketing on social and how you can use it in 2020 for more engagement, more conversions and more across the board delight from your audience.

Let’s hit it.

What Are The Best Channels for Video Content?

Video, while one of the best-performing media types, can still be limited by the channel in which its distributed. Yes, sharing on multiple platforms is key to maximizing your outreach, but make sure you keep in mind that sharing on particular channels can make or break your video marketing campaigns.

But what are the best platforms for video marketing?

With 1 in 4 people making a purchase after watching a video on Instagram stories, and 77% of marketers regularly posting on IGTV, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Instagram is a definite top choice.

93% of video views happen on mobile when it comes to Twitter and it was also discovered that tweets WITH video attract 10x more engagements than Tweets that don’t contain video, which means you should definitely consider adding a spark of video entertainment to your social media lineup. Specifically on Twitter.

But what about Facebook?

As it turns out, Facebook is where everyone is and everyone wants to be. It’s also the #1 platform where social media marketers want to devote more time in the coming year. Do you know what this means? You’re going to want to work doubly hard to step up your game!

On Facebook, a shocking one in five videos is live. It’s a growing trend and one that doesn’t seem to be fizzling out any time in the near future.

If you’re not going live behind-the-scenes or running interviews and giving some glimpses of your latest projects or products, it’s time to start looking to the future of video on social: the live stream.

When it comes to platforms like LinkedIn, Pinterest, or TikTok, remember that every platform is going to come with its own set of rules and different audiences. For TikTok, you’ll have a much younger audience than LinkedIn. And on LinkedIn, you’re more likely to find business professionals and connections.

Keeping all of this in mind, make sure you’re choosing platforms you’re confident about and that you feel will help push your business in the right direction.

Remember, though:

The platform is only half the battle. Your visual content and tactics are where the competition really gets tough. Find out where your audience is and devote your time to giving them what they need, when they need it. Even if it means starting smaller than you hoped or imagined.

Are Other Companies Utilizing Social Media Videos?

The short answer: Most likely. And this is why you also need to make sure you’re implementing these techniques into your social media marketing campaigns.

I’ve done some digging for you and retrieved some important statistics just to give you an idea of the urgency you should put into your social video creation before marketing in 2020 takes off.

Check it out:

According to Animoto, a staggering 70% of businesses are reporting that they’re creating more videos now than at this same time a year ago, and on top of that, 91% of businesses are now reporting that they consider video to be a regular and vital asset to their social media marketing campaigns.

Do you know what this means?

  1. Your competitors are very likely using video and succeeding more because of it;
  2. And in addition, video is becoming more and more vital to successful social media campaigns. In our current day and age, succeeding without video is not very likely.

Keeping all of this in mind, it’s no surprise that the number of videos crossing the internet each day will be around one million every second in 2020.

But Do Consumers ACTUALLY Prefer Video Over Other Forms of Media Content?

Videos are generally a faster and more exciting way to take in information. And unsurprisingly, 78% of people report watching videos every week on social media, with 55% of them watching videos in their feeds daily. Besides this, 55% of people WANT marketers to put out more videos

As one of the best digital marketing agencies out there, (in our own opinion. 😉) we can stand by these statistics and confirm that YES consumers prefer video to other forms of media and that in addition, they’re not getting enough of it.

Why do marketing professionals NOT take advantage of this opportunity?

  1. 23% say lack of time
  2. 21% say they wouldn’t know where to start
  3. 12% say lack of funds

New call-to-action

If you lack funds and/or resources, video marketing can seem daunting, but try to start small. A quick behind-the-scenes story or a video podcast is still worth more than not taking a step at all.
