1. Identify your Audience

Knowing your target audience(s) is the key to social media success. Determine who your current customers are and who you wish to reach in the future. Also, customize content to fit each target segment. 

2. Engage and Build Relationships

It is no longer enough to just receive post "likes". Be sure to actively engage with users and initiate conversations. Ask users to like a post, retweet, comment, subscribe, and/or share a video. Take the opportunity to offer promotions, such as host a giveaway after a certain number of followers is reached. 

3. Develop a Strategy

Develop a social media strategy that includes plans of when you will post and what type of content you will post on each social media platform you use. This will ensure that you have clear goals for the future and are on track to reach them.

4. Measure the Effectiveness

Social media platforms measure your reach (followers), traffic (visitors), leads from referral sites, customers, and conversion rates. Utilize these metrics in order to identify what is and isn't working. For example, you can use the data to determine that posting on Wednesday afternoons is more beneficial than Monday evenings.
